The exhibition Disney: The Magic of Animation | Ngā Tāoreore Tūmatarau at Tākina Wellington Convention and Exhibition Centre showcases 100 years of Disney animation. It features over 600 art pieces, from original sketches of classic characters to modern CGI designs, offering a behind-the-scenes look at the creation of beloved films. Highlights include artwork from films like Steamboat Willie (1928), Fantasia (1940), Frozen (2013), and Raya and the Last Dragon (2021).
In June, Bay Tours will be making the trip to Wellington especially for this special exhibition. Curated by the Walt Disney Animation Research Library, this is the first time the exhibition has been presented in Aotearoa, offering a unique opportunity to explore Disney’s animation techniques and creative process. We’ll arrive at the capital and go directly to explore the wonders of this exhibition. Afterwards we’ll check into our rooms at the Copthorne Hotel on Oriental Parade and enjoy dinner inhouse that evening. Sunday morning feel free to have a sleep in or wander the Harbourside market less than 10 mins walk away. On our way back home today, we’ll stop in at the RJs factory shop for a sweet top up.
This is a fantastic opportunity to immerse yourself in the magic of Disney animation while enjoying a relaxing weekend in Wellington. Whether you’re a lifelong fan or discovering Disney’s creative legacy for the first time, this exhibition promises to captivate and inspire. With convenient accommodations and a leisurely Sunday morning, it’s the perfect way to experience both the artistic brilliance of Disney and the charm of the capital.
