Introducing our first specifically curated ‘Small Group’ tour
Monet & Madonna
International Exhibitions – Auckland
It’s rare for New Zealand to host two international travelling art exhibitions at the same time and rarer still, for them to be in the same city simultaneously.
In September Bay Tours invite you to experience two of the most significant international exhibitions to visit New Zealand in recent years;
A Century Of Modern Art – From the Toledo Museum of Art, Ohio
From one of the most internationally renowned art museums comes a collection of paintings that celebrate the visionary artists that revolutionized Western art from the late 19th, well into the 20th century. From the emotive brushstrokes of Van Gogh to the evocative landscapes of Monet and idiosyncratic portrait styles of Gauguin and Picasso, A Century Of Modern Art traces the birth of modern painting, beginning with the impressionists of the 1860s, and follows its evolution through key movements such as Cubism, Surrealism, Bauhaus and Abstract Expressionism. Featuring nearly 60 works by luminaries such as Cezanne, Degas, Gauguin, Manet, Modigliani, Monet, Picasso, Pissarro, Renoir, Van Gogh and Whistler, among others, A Century Of Modern Art showcases the diversity and innovation that defined modern art movements. These are masterpieces by some of the most important artists in modern history and never seen before in this country.
Diva – From the Victoria & Albert Museum, London
The Victoria & Albert Museum, known worldwide simply as the V&A, is the world’s largest museum of applied arts and design, housing a permanent collection of over 2.8 million objects. From their enormous collection comes Diva, a dazzling celebration of the musicians and performers who have captivated audiences, driven change and redefined culture. Featuring over 280 objects, including performance costumes, fashion, photography and music, the exhibition explores the power, ambition and artistry of some of the most legendary performers in history.
From the worlds of opera, theatre, film, rock and pop music come names like Maria Callas, Cher, Madonna, Tina Turner, Marilyn Munroe, Lady Gaga, Rhiannah, Bjork and many more. From exquisite couture gowns and show-stopping costumes to intimate personal items, Diva journeys through the worlds of some of history’s most magnetic performers to find out how the term ‘Diva’ has been refined over time.
Immerse yourself in the worlds of Aretha Franklin, Dolly Parton, Adele, Amy Winehouse, Elton John, Ella Fitzgerald, Prince and Beyonce. On entry you’ll be issued with a headset which, as you wander the galleries, will automatically trigger performances from each individual diva. Come and celebrate this history of modern performance and the figures that have defined generations in music, fashion and style.
Basing ourselves in the exciting Viaduct Harbour, at The Sebel Hotel, and dining at leading Auckland restaurants including Ben Bayly’s Origine, this Auckland sojourn is a chance to immerse yourself in the rich cultural history of Western art and music. Places limited to 15 guests.
