Back by popular demand! After the incredible response to last year’s tour, we are delighted to once again offer this very special day exploring conservation, sustainability, and outstanding local food in the beautiful Hawke’s Bay.
We have been invited to return to Cape Sanctuary, Aotearoa’s largest privately owned and funded mainland island conservation project, nestled at Cape Kidnappers. Established in 2006 by a local family, the sanctuary has become a remarkable success story in habitat restoration and pest control, creating a safe haven for many of our most endangered native species. Today, Cape Sanctuary is home to more than 600 Eastern Brown Kiwi, with chick survival rates far exceeding the national average, allowing kiwi to now be gifted to other emerging conservation projects around the country. Kākā, Kākāriki, North Island Robin, Rifleman, and even Takahē now thrive within the sanctuary’s protected environment.
Our morning adventure begins with our friends from Gannet Safaris Overland guiding us into the sanctuary aboard their purpose-built 4WD vehicle. We’ll enjoy a fascinating guided experience, spectacular scenery, and morning tea with the dedicated volunteers who help make this inspiring project possible.
The theme of sustainability continues after lunch as we visit the renowned St Georges Restaurant. Owner and chef Francky Godinho has spent years developing his extensive kitchen garden to supply as much fresh produce for the restaurant as possible. Following a delicious lunch, Francky will take us to the “secret” location of his garden for a special behind-the-scenes tour and insight into his passion for seasonal, sustainable food.
Spaces are strictly limited to just 20 guests, so don’t miss your chance to experience this unforgettable day.
