It’s been a couple of years since we last visited our friends Greg and Rachel Hart at Māngārara Station. Bay Tours have been regular visitors to their 1,500 acre hill country farm at Elsthorpe over the years. Their stunning Eco-Lodge, clad entirely in macrocarpa milled on the property, looks across Horseshoe Lake & Wetland that borders the farm and is the venue for today’s barbeque lunch. Featuring their own beef, pork and lamb grown right there on their farm, their lunches are always delicious and abundant. Having enjoyed their superb fare and hospitality, there may be an opportunity to buy their meat and free-range eggs to take home.
After lunch we’ll head further on to Kairakau Beach to enjoy this stunning stretch of sandy coastline before turning homeward and enjoying the scenery along the Kahuranaki road east of the Tukituki River. This is a day out that takes us to the very heart (or should that be ‘Hart’) of what we love about Hawke’s Bay.
