What's Included

We feel privileged to return again to wonderful Wallingford south of Waipukurau. One of the great houses of Hawke’s Bay, Wallingford homestead was the centre of a farming enterprise that was established by John Davies Ormond in the 1850s and, over the subsequent decades, became the seat of the Ormond family. At its peak, it was a property spanning 24,000 acres and carrying more than 40,000 head of sheep. Over the years the block was divided among family members and when the fourth J.D. Ormond, known as Johnny, died in 2017 it was purchased by Gareth Dunkerley who had played at Wallingford as a child. Gareth has converted the sprawling house and grounds into a luxury retreat with award-winning Sydney restaurateur Chris Stockdale as Executive Chef. Chris grew up in Eketahuna  and has returned home to NZ with his business & life partner, Jeanette. They are now working their magic at Wallingford and we will join them for an afternoon of fine food and exploring this impressive property. Enjoy a complimentary drink on arrival as we relax in the lounge before lunch and hear more about the history of the property. A superb 3 course lunch follows with Chris creating dishes especially for our visit. There’ll be plenty of time to fully explore the house and grounds after lunch as well.

An opportunity to visit this historic private haven at any time is rare. And the chance to see it in its spring splendour and to experience a Chris Stockdale culinary tour-de-force, even rarer. Treat yourself to a day to remember with fine dining in gracious, glorious surroundings.
