Behind a predator-proof fence less than an hour north of Napier lies a special place to which Kiwi chicks are brought from the wild. The Kiwi safe haven surrounds the beautiful Lake Opouahi and we’re returning to meet some of the people helping raise the chicks and, fingers crossed, some of the chicks themselves.
Later we head further up the valley to Boundary Stream for a delicious picnic lunch and the opportunity to walk into the past along accessible tracks through native bush. Watch the cheeky kaka birds feed and hear and maybe observe the beautiful bellbird, North Island robin, tomtit, fantail, kereru (native wood pigeon) and the rare and magnificent kōkako. Join us for an exciting day amongst the best our natural region has to offer.
